Social Emotional Resources

If your child needs a break or just has one of those days, I have some resources to help. Sparkle bottles and fidgets help distract from small issues and sensory bins give students opportunities to target their senses in times where they need to calm down or refocus. Headphones (noise cancelling) are for those that are very sensitive to sound in assemblies or exciting events. They are wiped down after every use.

What are we working on in Math?

Some fun math videos for you!

Math doesn't have to come from a textbook or worksheet. It comes from hands-on activities and real life applications.
This is my bulldog, Winnie. She loves raspberries and blueberries! Click on a picture to watch a video of Winnie doing some math with me! I will upload a few of Winnie over the next few weeks.
If you have a pet or family member that would like to do some math with you and video it for the class website, feel free to send it to Mrs. Coates and it will be posted for everyone in our class to see.

What are some of our literacy activities?

Guided Reading
In our class, students will be working in guided reading groups to enhance reading strategies, sound manipulation, writing skills, and fluency through 4 stations throughout the week. These groups will reflect our work with our weekly words, our poem of the week, our target sound, and enhancing each child's reading abilities at their own level.

Reading to Polly
Polly the poodle and her owner, Dana, have been coming to read with my class for 9 years now. Polly came to us in her therapy dog training and a certified therapy dog. A permission slip for this will be coming home.

Would you like to see my yearly plan?

The attached documents are my plans for each term for our learning throughout all the subjects. It is long but encompasses both grades, the curriculum that I will target, and the tasks we will plan to do. Please understand that this is a plan and may change as our learning environment changes and as the needs and curiosities of the students change.
